This device replaces the existing smart card solution to provide you with an extra layer of security, in addition to your User ID and Password. The new security device comes in the form of a mini-token which generates a single use security code, also known as one-time-password. The onetime password is displayed briefly on a small screen on the mini-token. Online banking customers will be required to use this one-time-password alongside their User ID and Password when making online banking transaction approval.

The one-time-password generated by the minitoken is secure because of the time sensitive, synchronised nature of user authentication. The randomness, unpredictability and uniqueness of the one-time-password substantially increase online banking security level.

In addition to the one-time-password, the mini-token itself becomes second factor authentication medium. This means that even if the User ID and Password (first factor authentication - something that customer knows) is somehow compromised, online banking transactions cannot be executed without the one-time-password generated by the mini-token (second factor authentication - something the customer has).
